Sanyo SC-WP100 Customer Review(s):
Summary: WOW! I owned a Dyson, and I didn't hate this stick vac! Rating: 5 (out of 5) Comment: My family has a Dyson. What can I cay about it - when it comes to suction, it is a magic wand. I have been using it there for long enough time to get used to its superb suction and quality.
Now that I am going back to college. I just started to live in a small apartment with all my books (yeah right) and gudgets and such. I moved everything in, and tried to vacuum the floor after moving with our Dyson we brought with us for the day.
Well, if you think vacuuming your huge house with lots of rooms with your full-sized vacuum cleaner is a pain, bring your vacuum to your kids' dormrooms and try vacuuming there with it. It's too big and heavy for a smaller space with a lot of objects getting in your way.
Thus I started to look for a smaller, lighter vacuum cleaner for my apartment. But, oh lord, I know what Dyson is like! I thought I would absolutely hate the suction and quality of whatever I can get. I tried several, like one with funky loop on the handle, etc. Hated everything. Less suction is one thing, but all those hustle with filters... Ugh!
Then came this vacuum. I was desperately browsing Amazon.com and saw two earlier reviews. 4.5 stars average, not bad, and the one who gave 4 stars doesn't really have a big negative to say, either.
Continued browsing, found a 'upgrade' model ('Roto-Sweep Plus, SC-WP 110') on here, too. Liked its color (red), but it was not offered by [...] and did not have a free supersaver shipping, reward points, etc. The Plus model basically looked the same as this one, except its filter is pleated and it has 20 electrostatic cloths instead of 10. I thought even with the color difference, I would go with the less expensive one (about $20 less as of the time I am writing this, with shipping cost and everything).
So I ordered this one, one of last three Amazon had in stock (more to come soon!), and guess what, I DIDN'T HATE THIS VAC AT ALL! Its suction is very strong, extremely light waight, small enough to get in to narrow areas (especially when crevice tool is used), and just like Dyson, you will never have to buy a bag or filter (the filter on this Sanyo is washable and seems to be working great). Compared with Dyson, dust disposal is not as easy (since you will have to remove the filter to dispose the dust), but it is not too big of a problem.
You know what? For a right purpose, I dare to say that this is better than Dyson. If you love your college kid, get them one of these. If you love yourself, get yourself one (for kitchen, bathroom, etc. if you have a big house where using larger, heavier vacuum cleaners like Dyson does not give you a back pain).
I definitely recommend this vacuum if you are looking for a stick vac. .........................................................................................................................................................................
Summary: Great hard surface vacuum for the money Rating: 4 (out of 5) Comment: I have only a couple of negatives for this vacuum and they can be easily fixed. One is the on switch, which is so sensitive that it turns itself off frequently. I put a small piece of tape on the switch and it no longer turns itself off; works great. The other negative is that the cord isn't long enough so I added a lightweight ext. cord and it's just fine.
This vacuum works really great with hardwood flooring. I have sealed, high gloss wood flooring; one tile bathroom and one vinyl bathroom and the vacuum is wonderful for both. I had previously been sweeping and dust-mopping the wood flooring and with 2 cats; the hair was sweeping across the hardood like tumble-weeds. This vacuum is wonderful for hard surfaces; not great for carpets or rugs but I'm extremely happy with the purchase. It does what I'd hoped for the wood floors!! Would highly recommend. .........................................................................................................................................................................
Summary: Good for Floors Rating: 3 (out of 5) Comment: This vacuum is lightweight, convenient to move around, and nicely designed. It picks-up very well from bare wood and tile floors. However, the suction is not strong enough to clean my low-pile area rugs. I have two cats and a dog so there is dust and pet hair that is easily removed from the floors but not from the rugs. It is still a very worthwhile $37.99 since it is more valuable to use than a regular dustbuster product. .........................................................................................................................................................................
