Convenient and full of features, the Dirt Devil Vision upright vacuum is a heavy-duty cleaning machine for the whole house. Suitable for bare floors, above-floor tasks, and multiple heights of carpet, the 12-amp machine features a dial-adjusted floor nozzle with a triple-row agitator brush roll for cleaning and grooming carpet fibers. Its dirt collection is bagless, using a generous, transparent dust cup instead of cumbersome bags. When dirt and debris pile up inside, the cup simply pops off the vacuum to be emptied--this task made simpler by its lid and built-in handle. An internal pleated HEPA filter traps 100 percent of ragweed and pollen as well as the majority of dust, irritants, and pet dander. The filter taps clean for regular maintenance and typically lasts about a year before it needs replacing. Though the Vision's bagless construction is somewhat bulky for fitting under furniture, its onboard accessory set counteracts that shortcoming. Designed for instant use, the onboard hose is substantial and stretchy, providing powerful suction for dusting shelves, snagging cobwebs, and cleaning in tight spots. The standard onboard attachments include a dusting brush, a crevice tool, and an extra wand. The more high-tech attachment is the motorized Turbo Tool, which has its own brush roll, making it perfect for upholstery and carpeted stairs. Dirt Devil equips the Vision with other welcome extras, like quick-release power cord hooks, a carrying handle, and a bright headlight. The vacuum carries an especially generous warranty--three years on the parts and six years on the motor. --Emily Bedard

Dirt Devil 088400 Customer Review(s):
Summary: Whatsa Matta U- Draconion Reviews Rating: 4 (out of 5) Comment: I recently purchased this as a replacement for our Singer (Ryobi) 9 Amp upright which more or less served 6 years, until one of our teenagers dropped it down the stairs and no more front wheels. I'd always disliked this plastic contraption, with every feature having some ache or another. I did a rebuild on the impeller, coins put holes in them, and barely got It back together with glue and a little luck. That lasted ok, 3 years, until the other night.
So London Drugs and others are all having fall houseware sales and had lot of vacuums to choose from.
We were lucky and had a most willing helper, who unpacked vacuums for us to look at that were not on display, and in general had a pretty good handle a which vac's had which features.
So why I bought this vaccum. We have stairs and the powered stair brush was needed. Also we have a plug situation that the 20' cord on the Ryobi was a bit short. This one has 32' and it's really nice. This vac's accessory hose is a good quality, most were a cheap plastic hose and not nearly as long as this one. It seems that the hose is six feet long, and has a long tube, so that when you using the stair attachment you dont have to bend over, and I'm over 6' tall.
This is a bagless. My wife likes the idea, I'm not completely sold, as the capacity has to be less than a bag. But this comes with the HEPA filter and that is a benefit.
If your reading all of the recommedations, I regret some of the dire comments about smoking belts and dust. All of these issues are covered in the operating insturctions. 12 amps is a lot of power, so if you screw up, something has to give. They put a circuit breaker on motor. In case you don't do instructions. Please empty the container outside and down wind, and always raise the wheels when using the accessories. Evidently with a powerful motor so people can't hear the beater bar bush on the carpet when their using the accesories and the belt gets hot. This would apply to any upright of course.
My negative would be that nearly all of the vacuums which we unpacked most were completly assembled or nearly so. I'm very mechanical and think that putting six plastic parts and the handle on is a bit much, not counting assembly the filter canister which is expected. Also this vac with it's longer hose, and cord is commensuratley a bit heavier. We paid $129 cdn, on sale. It list at $179.
This model has swivelling rear wheels, most have to large wheels, 4' Diameter. This one is very easy to push, it almost seems to pull itself along, and the swivel rear wheels make it much easier to manovuer.
Yes I'm pleased, we had a wide selection to choose from. I feel quality of the componets will better withstand the rough handling the other houshold members put it though. .........................................................................................................................................................................
Summary: Don't Buy!!! Loud, Inconvenient and Unreliable. Rating: 1 (out of 5) Comment: When I first got this machine, I was excited because it had great sucking power and I have a long haired large dog. So this worked out well for me, despite being the LOUDEST machine I have ever owned. Literally, my ears ring when I'm done vaccuming with this machine. But it stopped working after about three months.
It *is* a little messy to empty the collection bin, which is also very big. But it vaccumed so well, and the receptical is so large that I did't mind this.
But what I do mind is the inconvenience of the hose popping out of the machine very frequently, getting dust and dog hair everywhere. I have to constantly watch the hose, tighten it so it doesn't come out again, and finally reconnect it becaues it will come out anyway. Over and over again.
Another inconvenience is that the electrical cord will always get in the way, and I didn't hold on to it while vaccuming, I would run over it, and the sucking is so strong, it sucked up the electrical cord. In fact, it was damaged so much, I had to replace the cord. Being that the sucking action was convenient for me, I figured it was my own fault for letting go of the cord.
But even with all the inconveniences, as long as the machine worked I was okay with the poor design. The reason why I gave this machine such a low score was that this machine went from being such a strong sucker that it sucked up the electrical cord to not sucking up anything - overnight - no exaggeration - after about three months of working well.
Just when I was thinking, 'wow this dog must be really shedding, I can't clean up this room at all' I realized this machine was creating a bigger mess: I kept going over the same areas until I figured out that instead of sucking up dog fur, it passed it under and behind, and I wound up with piles of fur on the floor behind me, or on my pants. The belt was still intact, and spinning. I even had the machine taken apart and cleaned, the entire hose system was removed and cleaned out with a wire coat hanger. Still, it wouldn't pick up anything, just passed the dirt, dust and dog hair right under it and back on my floor.
Don't buy this machine. And if you do buy it, make sure you don't wait until the last minute to clean your house (so you can run out and buy a replacement in enough time to clean before guests come, or whatever reason you needed to pick up quickly), or else have a spare that will work when this one will just stop working. .........................................................................................................................................................................
Summary: Worst vacuum ever Rating: 1 (out of 5) Comment: I bought this vacuum a little over a year ago, and at first absolutely loved it. It was loud, but it seemed to do a great job of cleaning the carpets. I was so excited. Within a couple of weeks, something broke on it. I went back to the store and they replaced it. In the last year, I have had to replace this vacuum four times. I finally gave up and am buying a Dyson. I definately do not recommend this vacuum to anyone, unless you enjoy getting a new one every couple of months. .........................................................................................................................................................................
