One of Zenith's most affordable high-definition projection monitors, the R50V26 offers complete compatibility with progressive-scan DVD players and digital TV set-top box decoders. Its staggering 1,200 lines of horizontal resolution display either 540p or 1080i formats and benefits from a host of Zenith technologies, including a sophisticated up-conversion process for rendering 480i (such as a DVD player's RCA composite-video outputs) as high-resolution 540p. The R50V26 tops previous Zenith models with an enhanced HD lens system, which improves image brightness and focus. A computer-configured nine-point digital-focus array actually looks at 117 points, interpolating between points to yield an image that is razor sharp from center to edge. The set's image is further sharpened by its .52 mm screen pitch. The R50V26 also offers 3:2 pull-down detection, which detects and synchs film to video for smooth theaterlike pictures. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pull-down digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame accurate picture on your TV. Most HDTVs perform up-conversion (or line doubling) of analog signals to simulate a high-definition picture, and sometimes this process introduces artifacts that appear as pixilated scenes due to the digital conversion. The R50V26's improved HD driver increases both vertical and horizontal resolution to produce images that are free from picture artifacts. True HD signals are not affected by this process, which leaves them as true to life as possible. Advanced scan-velocity modulation improves the definition at picture edges, sharpening images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Jacks include three RF (radio-frequency) inputs (for VCR, cable boxes), two high-resolution component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, one S-video output, two sets of AV inputs, one set of AV outputs, and one set of variable analog-audio outputs so you can control levels from your TV's remote even when you're listening through your amplifier or AV receiver.

Comment: Excellent TV Never thought a projection TV could be so clear. I use a S-Video cable for our DVD and Cable box. The picture is awesome. When friends see the TV they can't believe it's a projection monitor either. Set up is easy and with the rollers anyone can move the TV.

I don't know whay happened to the other owner of this TV but I've had nothing but good luck when talking with Zenith.

Comment: I was very tempted to buy this unit, almost clicking the 'Add to Cart' button, when I noticed the reviewers had listed it as 1 star. Quickly reading the review posted by a very helpful purchaser, I decided not to buy this unit. Now back to the drawing board!

Comment: I purchased a Zenith r50z26 new and the TV was stuck in HDTV and could not choose standard or DVD format. I called Zenith and I was very rudely told to call a local TV repair shop. I did so to find out the local TV shop that Zenith recommended knew nothing about HDTV's. I called Zenith back and was referred to another local TV shop. The repair man came out and said there was a bad chip in the TV that they had to take it to the shop to be fixed. It has now been 2 weeks and the repair man told me it should be 7 to 10 days. The repair shop still can not fix the TV. So I called Zenith back to ask how long I would have to wait and I was told 'You have to wait as long as it takes' I replied 'Why do you customers get such poor service' and I was hung up on.
