Comment: This Sony XBR is a true beauty. The picture quality is superb and the set oozes with cool. Using the HDMI input combined with a high def picture will produce a picture that is simply jaw dropping.
HD signals look amazing as do 480p images from DVDs. Unfortunately, the standard 4:3 broadcast signal, which is probably 80% of the images that you'll see, look flat out bad. If you feed the set a great image source like a 1080i or 720p image, it looks beautiful. But, if the input is the traditional standard signal, it'll be an eyesore. This is not particularly the XBR's fault though. Most high def sets just can't do anything to the already abysmal 480i signals.
The sound of the 960 is viscerally deep and rich and adds to the aura of watching tv in style.
Average 480i quality aside, this XBR comes with all the bells and whistles to spoil most videophiles. I wish however, that Sony would've added an additional HDMI slot to support future apps such as the PS3 and high def DVD players. The 34' widescreen display looks nice and big without that exaggerated feel of having a giant screen.
I've now owned my set for over a year and it hasn't given me a single problem. Buy this set along with the matching stand for an entertainment center that will look and perform as the first rate products that they are.

Comment: The top reviewer is incorrect. The best signal this TV does is CONVERTs 720p stations to 1080i. it still has the best picture around, though.
